The association Rédheja, “Réseau pour le développement européen de l’histoire de la jeune Amérique 1607-1865” (https://redehja.hypotheses.org/category/presentation/qui-sommes-nous) is launching the “Prix Élise Marienstras-Rédehja” in honor of this distinguished historian and Americanist, a pioneer in the field of research on the young American republic in France.
The aim of the prize is to pay tribute to French and Francophone research on North America and the Caribbean, both through its methodological and institutional specificity, and through its efforts to situate itself at the interface of two scientific cultures.
The bi-annual prize will be awarded for the first time in spring 2025. It is awarded for a research work on the history, culture or literature of pre-industrial America (USA), 1492-1865.
Transatlantic or transnational research on the whole of North and Central America, including Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean, is also welcome.
To be eligible, authors must regularly carry out part of their research in French. The works themselves may be written in either French or English.
This includes research monographs, critical editions and translations of original works, and collections of essays (as opposed to conference proceedings).
Colloquium proceedings and educational works are therefore excluded. Works submitted must have been published since the previous odd-numbered year (e.g. 2023 and 2024 for the 2025 prize). Works, in paper and/or pdf format, must be sent to the following address (Marie-Jeanne Rossignol 23 chemin du bras du chapitre 94000 Créteil and prixemredehja@gmail.com) 6 months before the award date, i.e. in October 2024 and no later than December 31, 2024 (only for works published between October and December).
Full prize regulations can be found (in French) at: https://redehja.hypotheses.org/2186
