The History of Children and Youth Group (HCYG) was organized at the 2004 meeting of the Canadian Historical Association at the University of Manitoba. Its goals include:
- promoting teaching and research in the field of the history of children and youth in Canada and beyond its borders;
- disseminating information about sources, current research and publications; encouraging the preservation of archival sources in the history of children and youth;
- linking researchers, professors, teachers and students with each other and with other similar organizations in other countries (for example, the Society for the History of Children and Youth), and
- promoting social justice concerns of contemporary children and youth in Canada and around the world.
Anyone who is actively researching, teaching or studying the history of children and youth in Canada or elsewhere, or who would simply like to be kept informed about current developments in the field, is welcome to join the History of Children and Youth Group.
