Re: In support of a Francophone University in Ontario

The Honourable Doug Ford

Dear Premier Ford,

The CHA was saddened to see that the planned establishment of the Université de l’Ontario français had been cancelled in your government’s budget that was made public on November 15. With it, the right of francophones wanting to receive postsecondary education in history exclusively in their language vanished. The CHA is of the opinion that to jettison the creation of this francophone institution, which would have cost a mere $12 million, is a very short-sighted decision. Not only does it do very little in your quest to eliminate $15 billion in government spending, but it deters bilingualism in the province.

The CHA would thus strongly urge your government to reinstate the funding necessary to create the francophone university in order to support Franco Ontarian graduate students who would like to do historical research in their own language.
