Son travail cherche \u00e0 \u00e9clairer la question de la modernit\u00e9 canadienne en explorant l&rsquo;\u00e9mergence du Canada comme \u00e9tat racial \u00e0 travers ses r\u00e9cits de supr\u00e9matie blanche, d&rsquo;esclavage, de colonisation \/ d\u2019immigration, de s\u00e9gr\u00e9gation et de lois s\u00e9gr\u00e9gationnistes \u00e0 la Jim Crow. Une grande partie de son travail consid\u00e8re la fa\u00e7on dont ces pratiques ont \u00e9t\u00e9 l\u00e9gitim\u00e9es et, dans certains cas, contest\u00e9es par la primaut\u00e9 du droit et les institutions
