Si un constat s\u2019impose, c\u2019est la multiplicit\u00e9 des possibilit\u00e9s et des perspectives. Qu\u2019est-ce que l\u2019histoire canadienne\u2009? C\u2019est \u00e0 cette question que tente ultimement de r\u00e9pondre ce cours classique du parcours d\u2019un \u00e9tudiant de premier cycle. Dans un tel cadre, o\u00f9 il est difficile de rendre compte d\u2019une histoire aussi complexe, nos pan\u00e9listes ont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 un vaste \u00e9ventail d\u2019avenues et de r\u00e9flexions.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 juste titre, les pan\u00e9listes ont fait remarquer que la p\u00e9riodisation et le cadre d\u2019analyse doivent \u00eatre consid\u00e9r\u00e9s avec attention pour brosser un portrait juste et englobant de l\u2019histoire canadienne. L\u2019une des trames les plus adopt\u00e9es \u2014 et appr\u00e9ci\u00e9es des \u00e9tudiant.e.s \u2014 est l\u2019imp\u00e9rialisme. Introduire l\u2019histoire canadienne par le biais de cette question permet de pr\u00e9senter une histoire sensible aux dynamiques et aux structures de pouvoir en restituant la place centrale des groupes marginalis\u00e9s en son sein. Ce n\u2019est toutefois pas le seul format prioris\u00e9 par nos pan\u00e9listes. Certains se concentrent sur des moments cl\u00e9s de l\u2019histoire canadienne pour faire ressortir les \u00e9v\u00e8nements marquants que devraient conna\u00eetre tout \u00e9tudiant.e\u2009; d\u2019autres combinent des approches chronologiques et th\u00e9matiques pour mettre de l\u2019avant des aspects essentiels de l\u2019histoire canadienne ou tenter d\u2019en faire un survol le plus exhaustif possible.<\/p>\n<p>Au-del\u00e0 de la mati\u00e8re elle-m\u00eame, les pan\u00e9listes ont montr\u00e9 que le cours se devait d\u2019\u00eatre b\u00e2ti pour une vari\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9tudiants aux bagages et parcours divers. La combinaison d\u2019un int\u00e9r\u00eat grandissant pour des questions contemporaines directement ancr\u00e9es dans l\u2019histoire et d\u2019une baisse d\u2019inscription dans la discipline m\u00e8ne \u00e0 des cours o\u00f9 certains \u00e9tudiant.e.s n\u2019ont pas de notions pr\u00e9alables en histoire. Ceci donne naissance \u00e0 diff\u00e9rentes perspectives sur sa finalit\u00e9. Pour certains pan\u00e9listes, le cours est une porte d\u2019entr\u00e9e vers des \u00e9tudes plus pouss\u00e9es de ses dynamiques\u2009; pour d\u2019autres, il s\u2019agit d\u2019une introduction englobante pour capturer l\u2019essence de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 canadienne historique et contemporaine.<\/p>\n<p>Les pan\u00e9listes ont \u00e9galement montr\u00e9 que le cours d\u2019introduction \u00e0 l\u2019histoire canadienne vise \u00e0 former une pens\u00e9e critique et \u00e0 mettre de l\u2019avant des m\u00e9thodes de recherche adapt\u00e9es \u00e0 la discipline. De ce fait, le type de lectures obligatoires et d\u2019\u00e9valuations a \u00e9t\u00e9 discut\u00e9. Alors que certains pr\u00e9conisent des textes acad\u00e9miques, une ouverture aux travaux non universitaires se ressent de plus en plus dans le but d\u2019\u00e9largir la port\u00e9e du savoir mobilis\u00e9. Quant \u00e0 elles, les \u00e9valuations tentent d\u2019encourager les \u00e9tudiant.e.s \u00e0 se familiariser avec la m\u00e9thode et les enjeux de la discipline, dans l\u2019espoir que leurs connaissances soient mobilis\u00e9es dans le futur, quelle que soit leur orientation.<\/p>\n<p>Nous pouvons facilement constater qu\u2019il n\u2019existe pas de formule parfaite pour b\u00e2tir un bon cours d\u2019introduction. Le nombre d\u2019enjeux qui l\u2019entourent est vertigineux\u00a0: mati\u00e8re, th\u00e9ories et consid\u00e9rations pratiques se c\u00f4toient et s\u2019entrecroisent pour construire un cours accessible et r\u00e9v\u00e9lateur pour les \u00e9tudiant.e.s.
