Metis Matriarchs: Agents of Transition

A chapter proposal is welcomed to an edited book by Doris Jeanne MacKinnon entitled Metis Matriarchs: Agents of Transition, under consideration by Canadian Scholars/Women's Press. The book's 20 chapters will take a biographical case study approach in exploring the role of Metis women as the fur trade transitioned to a sedentary economy based on agriculture and industrialized commerce in the late 19th and early 20th century. Issues examined can include socio-economic status, racialization, cultural identity and adaptation, colonialism, and sexual/gender orientation. The intended audiences are undergraduate students in Indigenous Studies, Social Science, and Women's and Gender Studies in North American universities and colleges.

Authors are welcomed from Canadian universities and colleges, and we welcome co-authored chapters and proposals from both established and emerging scholars, including graduate students. Length of abstract: 100-200 words.

Deadline for abstract submission is January 10, 2021.

Expected length of final chapter: 6,000-7,000 words.

Proposed deadline for full chapters: April 2021.

Please submit abstract proposal to: Dr. Doris Jeanne MacKinnon by e-mail: dorisjmackinnon@gmail.com
