Engaged | Engagés - A CHA Webinar Series: Indigenizing the Teaching of North American History

Published on 14 Oct 2020

In light of the cancellation of Congress 2020, the CHA has organised a series of webinars to provide a virtual discussion forum for historians until they have the opportunity to share their research with colleagues in person once it is safe to do so. The hope is that the series will become a great forum of exchanges over time.

The first in the series, « L’autochtonisation de l’enseignement de l’histoire », took place on 29 June and deals with the decolonisation of Canadian history curricula. The discussion is moderated by Mathieu Arsenault, Professor in the Department of History at the Université de Montréal and the panelists are Leila Inksetter, Professor in the Department of Sociology at UQÀM; Jonathan Lainey, Curator, Aboriginal Cultures at the McCord Museum; and Brian Gettler, Professor of History at the University of Toronto. You can view the video recording on YouTube.

A English-Language panel on Indigenizing the Teaching of North American History will be recorded on October 30 and will be released publicly on 2 November on YouTube. The panelists include Marie BattisteAlan Corbiere, and Sarah Nickel (click on the links to read more their careers). Though we will not be running the session live, we would like to solicit questions from our membership. Questions can be sent before October 28th to the session moderator, Thomas Peace, at tpeace@uwo.ca. The roundtable will follow a similar discussion among our francophone colleagues.
