Dr. David Webster provided the committee with a myriad of activities that he uses to connect students with primary sources. One that caught the committee’s eyes was the “Speed Dating with Documents” activity that connects students with a collection of documents from Cayuga chief Deskaheh and his appeal to the League of Nations in the 1920s for help against Canada’s takeover of the Six Nations territory at Grand River, near Brantford, Ontario. This exercise pushes students to create a narrative from a set of documents. From the materials shared with the committee, it is clear that students find this assignment is both highly effective and enjoyable.
