The CHA Teaching Prize
Early or Alternative Career Award – Other than Canadian History
The committee was impressed with Dr. Bruce-Lockhart‘s ability to connect students with the voices of the past by including memoirs and narratives written by the historical subjects her students’ study. One outstanding example is her use of a prison memoir by Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o from postcolonial Kenya. Many of the testimonials from students applauded not only this memoir, but the use of other memoirs as well in connecting students with the difficult histories that they encountered.
