Early or Alternative Career Award – Canadian History

Dr. Rebecca Beausaert’s innovative ways of using primary sources to teach Canadian history excited the committee. The committee was especially impressed with how Dr. Beausaert exposes students to cookbooks from Canada’s past and allows them to apply their findings to the “What Canada Ate” virtual exhibition in partnership with the University of Guelph’s Archives and Special Collections. The impacts of Dr. Beausaert’s efforts were reflected in student letters that accompanied the application package, many of which indicated that this activity was the most memorable part of the students’ undergraduate experiences.
