Dylan Bremner – Archival Technician at the City of Edmonton Archives,

Dylan believes strongly that his undergraduate degree in history gave him a deeper understanding of why the preservation of information is so important. In each of his undergraduate history courses he grew to appreciate the information archivists preserved and the ease of access their work provided. This was a major breakthrough in understanding our discipline. It also inspired Dylan to use the skills acquired through his degree to work in a field he thoroughly enjoys and which continues to foster his passion for learning. At the City of Edmonton Archives, Dylan assists the archivists in preserving, and adding to, collections. For Dylan, the best part of this is being able to work with records throughout their life-cycle. In the Fall of 2017 Dylan will build from his degree (BA 2015) and his time as an Archival Technician by pursuing postgraduate studies in Library Studies. Connecting his current job to what he learned during his time as a History Major at MacEwan, Dylan suggests that the link is in how you think about the pieces coming together to form a picture and determining how to best present that picture to maintain the integrity of the materials. In Dylan’s own words its about an “intellectual sortation.”
