I graduated from Université Laval in 2002. Ever since I can remember, I have always been fascinated by history. This academic choice was quite natural for me even though several questioned the viability of a degree in history: “What are you going to do with this? “,” There is no job in this field! “. I always ignored these reactions, I said to myself that “if it is taught, it can work …”. In fact, I had another idea in mind: to become a hip-hop artist, a rapper. I started writing rap in 1995 and quickly, I knew that was what I wanted to do with my life. History was my plan B, I was thinking that if my artistic career was not going as I wanted, I could still teach. In fact, for nearly a decade, it was history that supported me: I worked as a guide-interpreter for Parks Canada during the day, and I gave concerts in the evenings. A few years ago, things changed and I was able to quit my guide job and concentrate solely on my artistic career.

Today, however, history still plays a vital role in my life. In addition to my activities as a singer-songwriter, I regularly give lectures on the history of black presence and slavery in Quebec since the New France period. I also created guided tours of the Old Capital on this subject. This theme, which was never addressed in my university classes, is also emphasized in the lyrics of my songs. Finally, without having made it a profession, history remains always present in my daily life, in my musical activities as well as in my public interventions.
