Dimitrios Machlouta, “Academic Refugees or Undesirable Newcomers? Greek Anti-Junta Networks, Francophone Intellectuals, and Canada’s Quandary during Quebec’s Quiet Revolution, 1960–1976.” Études canadiennes / Canadian Studies, 98, 2025.
Machlouta’s article explores the impact of Greek intellectuals on Quebec’s Quiet Revolution and the shared sensibilities of Quebecois separatists and anti-Junta newcomers, what he calls the “intersection of transnational and local concerns”. It is an excellent use of Werner and Zimmerman’s histoire croisée. The paper convincingly urges the reader to consider how events that unfold in Canada are interconnected with developments in other parts of the world, and vice versa.
