Lifetime Achievement Award

The Clio Prairie Prize is awarded to Jill McConkey for lifetime achievement as an outstanding editor of academic publications. McConkey’s exceptional work as senior editor of University of Manitoba Press has advanced the publication of scholarship in Canadian, western Canadian, and Indigenous history. She has edited more than a hundred scholarly books, many of them prize winners. McConkey has worked with emerging and established scholars, particularly Indigenous scholars, and championed works in Indigenous history and other fields published by the University of Manitoba Press. A meticulous editor and tireless promoter of scholarly excellence, she offers authors generous guidance, direction, and mentorship. Her vision and contributions have made McConkey a creative force of publishing in Prairie history. As one nominator noted, McConkey is a “builder of history” who has supported the publication of scholarship in and about western Canada and contributed to the way the history of the Prairie region is now understood.
