Open State Career Award – Other than Canadian History
Dr. Rhonda L. Hinther’s leadership in founding, administering, and teaching in the globally-focused Public History Program at Brandon University has resulted in students gaining first-hand experience in the field. Dr. Hinther has guided students as they produced museum exhibits and gained three national historic designations from the Government of Canada. In her classroom, Dr. Hinther also provides a supportive and inclusive environment for students who are also parents and supports students’ individual interests in historical discussions from artefact “show and tell” to their favourite graphic histories. From her co-founding of this distinct public history program to the many connections with the public she helps her students build, Dr. Hinther has shown outstanding educational and professional leadership.
